Cathedral
The Holy Cathedral Basilica of the Incarnation is the official name of the cathedral of Malaga, one of the most valuable Renaissance jewels in Andalusia and also in Spain. This building, which is located in the old town, can be seen from any point in the city. Its grandeur, therefore, is majestic, as is its beauty, architecture and artistic wealth.
This cathedral was built on the main mosque from the 16th to the 17th century. This architectural complex, however, was left unfinished due to the lack of one of its towers. For this reason, the cathedral of Malaga has earned the popular nickname of "la Manquita" among the people of Malaga.
The architectural structure is characterized by a Latin cross plan made up of three naves of the same height and a polygonal top with an ambulatory. Its interior is an expression of art in its purest form, to the point that works by masters such as Giedo de Vergara rest there. Its choir is also a great reference to 17th century Spanish Baroque.
